Selfie Sunday – Being Mum

My boys…

The journey of being mum has at times been a roller coaster ride. It was a job that I never thought I would undertake because I was never the mumsy type. Don’t get me wrong I always liked children, other people’s, you can hand them back you see. I was never a mum that carried tissues in their bag to wipe sticky fingers, I was rubbish at remembering things like PE kits, dentist appointments, my best trick was turning up to appointments on the wrong day, remembering to pick them up after clubs. I was one of those mums as a teacher we hated, sending them in without a coat, not naming their clothes, not turning up for parents evening because I had lost the slip. To be fair I was expecting them both to be in therapy by the time they were teenagers because of the crap mother they had but apparently they seemed to have turned out alright, they say they love me.

They say they liked the fact I was relaxed not pushy, fun, I didn’t  mollycoddle. I have taught them independents, they grew up able to cook, clean, look after themselves, help other people with no fussing or nagging on my part.  I just let them get on with things and learn by their own mistakes, which believe you me they have made some.

At times I didn’t want to be a mum anymore, it’s the hardest job going, it’s a role that I wanted to  be better at, I wanted to be an earth mother, Mother Teresa, Mary Poppins, but I am not, I’m just me, doing the best job in the best way that I can! X

2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 6,200 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

And the award goes to….

Thanks to a fellow blogger who you can visit here they have nominated me for an Liebster Blog Award! How lovely!

So here are my nominations and what you need to do is answer 11 questions, nominate 11 blogs, ask them 11 questions. It is quite a nice way to get to know your fellow bloggers a bit more, I have quite enjoyed it really, even though it is a little time consuming!

These are the answers to the questions I was asked.

What’s your favourite smell?
Clean laundry.

Where would you like to go if you had an all-expenses paid trip?
Where do I start…. Bora bora, Hong Kong, Thailand, lakes of Italy to name but a few!

What was your favourite book when you were little?
Can’t say I remember doing any reading as a child, I left primary school unable to read, bit special really. Can’t really believe that I am a teacher now. I often think that when the children are doing their work that I have taught them, ‘bet my teachers would have never believed I would be doing this now’ they said I was thick! Anyway I digress, I don’t really read books now either but I do read a lot, if you see what I mean!

Sweet or savoury?
Defiantly savoury, I don’t eat anything sweet.

You have a evening just for you. What do you do?
Sit in a jacuzzi, sipping lager, and there be absolutely silence.

Beach or lake?
Beach, but only in a hot country, not here in cold, wet blighty.

You can only take one thing with you on a desert island… What do you choose?
A knife.

What do you look for in a blog?
It needs to make me either laugh or cry.

One thing you can’t stand.
People who ‘sweat the small stuff’ as I call it. Which means that they worry and moan about things that aren’t really important. Oh and people that moan about things and don’t do anything to change it.

One thing that makes you happy.
This is one thing of many, seeing the children at school have fun and grow in confidence.

You have to give up one thing. What would your biggest sacrifice be?
Earplugs at night, can’t sleep without them!

And here are the new questions for my nominated bloggers!

If you where to be a celebrity for a day, who would you be and why?
What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?
What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received?
What was your favorite food when you were a child?
What is your favorite body part?
If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
What story does your family always tell about you?
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?

I look forward to reading your answers! Enjoy! X
